The 2024 Presidential Election is finally over. For some the election of Trump was seen as a threat to democracy and the values that America stands for. Being a highschool student, do you think America will be in good hands for the next upcoming four years?
Many Americans find it difficult to align themselves with Trump’s rhetoric and policies. His views on immigration, trade, and foreign relations are seen as divisive and controversial by a large portion of the population. While some support his bold and unapologetic approach, others feel that he is fueling animosity and intolerance within the nation. Families & friends who once stood united now find themselves on opposite sides of the political spectrum.
“Trump was already mandated to be picked as president. The world is not ready for a woman to become president” says an anonymous speaker, they later added a reason on why they thought this, “Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris went against Trump, both lost. Which means America is much more prepared to accept a felon than a woman as a leader”.
Normally, a felony conviction is a big deal. It can prevent individuals from doing many things but, none of these things have been obstacles for Donald Trump, his wealth seems to isolate him from those consequences.
When asked how we can truly “Make America Great Again” an unknown anonymous speaker says We need to get rid of project 2025 before it truly even starts. It’s basically an agenda to dismantle American democracy, it’s a plan to make people independent. The core of the plan is anti women’s rights, anti poc, anti immigrants, anti lgbtq, but pro rich white men, I’m worried about the protection of our environment.” Their words give perspective on how things have always been and how the future will soon come about. When in American history have we had a felon as a president? Is that even allowed?
Trump seems to be the man with many “first” titles, one of them being the first person without government or military experiences ever to be elected US President. He is also the first President ever to be impeached twice – the second time for inciting an insurrection at the U.S. capitol on January 6th, 2020. During Joe Biden’s Presidential Election Certification held by the senate- Trump called for the proceeding to be interpreted and proclaimed him as the victor making Trump the nation’s first chief executive to refuse to attend his successor’s inauguration. You would think a president as qualified as Trump would try their best to not get arrested or have any felonies when you’re responsible for running a country.
Many questions about Trump’s legacy and his role in the nation’s political future will take time to answer. Some takeaways from his Presidency are already clear from Pew Research Center’s studies in recent years. Trump divided Republicans and Democrats more than any incoming Chief Executive in the prior three decades. The gap continued to grow when he became President his first term, imagine his 2nd term as President.
A second Donald Trump Presidency could bring about massive change: tariffs, a rollback of climate rules and a crackdown on protests. For the next 4 years, people need to get together and stop being so divided. To make “America Make Great Again” America has to be willing to work together.
