National+Merit+Society+Open+to+CHS+Students

The National Merit Society is an independent, nonprofit organization, which runs without government help. Their goal is to identify and honor talented US high school students; to stimulate increased support for their education, and to provide efficient and effective program management. Everyone who attends CHS is eligible for this program.

NMSC has recognized 3.3 million students, and 432,000 scholarships. Worth over 1.7 billion dollars. They have earned a reputation for quality and integrity.

To participate, there are some requirements:

  1. Take the PSAT/NMSQT in the specified year of the high school program and no later than the third year in grades 9 through 12.

  1. Be enrolled as a high school student (traditional or homeschooled), on track to graduate high school, and plan to accept admission to college no later than the fall following graduation.

  1. Attending high school in the U.S., District of Columbia, or U.S. commonwealth and territory, or meet the citizenship requirements for students attending high school outside the U.S.

On test day, students are asked some questions to determine entry to the NMSC program.

If you have any questions, check out the NMSC website.
