Girls Soccer Plays at Liberty Tonight

The girls played at the Newberg Tigers on Tuesday and the game was up for grabs at halftime with the score 0-0.  

Into the second half, the Eagles drew a foul in the box, giving the Tigers a penalty kick, in which they scored, leaving the Eagles behind 1-0.  Centennial kept pushing through the last 20 minutes of the game. Then senior Sierra Pinheiro received a ball from Alexi Howard, and took a shot outside of the box, tying the game 1-1.  

With about 5 minutes left in the game, Newberg drew a foul at the top of the box.  Sophomore Cassidy Belmont, took a hit towards the goal, when the ball hit the crossbar, and landed back at her feet.  She quickly found Howard towards the side of the box, who then took a shot, and gave the Eagles the lead 2-1. The final score was 2-1, with an amazing comeback from the Eagles.

The Eagles last home game was Sept. 19, versus Madison High School.  Within the first 3 minutes, Howard lobbed a ball over the keeper, to push the Eagles ahead 1-0.  The Eagles and Senators were an even matchup throughout the whole game. With 12 minutes left, the Senators struck back with a goal, tying the game 1-1.  The game ended shortly after that.

Centennial’s away game on Sept. 17 was against the North Salem Vikings.  The Eagles won 6-1 with 5 different scorers: Howard with 2 goals and Marlene Gonzalez, Camille Rios, Lize Redon and Madison Kramer with 1 goal each.

On Sept. 11 the Eagles took on the Forest Grove Vikings at home. The perfect matchup between the two teams left the game tied 0-0 by halftime. By the second half, Forest Grove scored 1, leaving Centennial behind. Later on, Howard received a cross from number 5, Daniella Dominguez and scored, tying the game 1-1. Forest Grove quickly came back by scoring another goal, which had them leading 2-1. As time went on, number 10, Marlene Gonzalez sends a ball to Alexi Howard, who dribbled past the goalkeeper and puts a ball into the back of the net, tying the game once again. Sadly, Centennial fell short, losing to Vikings 4-2, after Forest Grove scored 2 goals within a minute. 

 

Centennial’s second game took place on Monday, September 9th, when they attended their first away game versus Beaverton High School. Centennial fell 2-0 in the first half. By the second half, they fell to 4-0, until Lize Rendon scored Centennial’s first goal of the night, leaving the final score 4-1, Beaverton. 

The girls soccer season kicked off on Thursday, September 5th, 2019 with a home opener versus the Roosevelt Riders. The girls came out strong and ready to play, and it paid off. The game started with number 13, Lizé Rendon and number 12, Camille Rios scoring in the first half. Number 1, Howard finished the game by scoring in the last seven seconds. The final score was Centennial 3, Roosevelt 0.
