Barlow Beats Eagles After Eagles Beat Cavaliers
The Eagles lost last night’s game against Barlow 8-3, and hope to come back tonight for a victory against Sandy at Sandy High School. The Lady Eagles play Gresham Friday night at home.
Centennial Eagles softball had a blowout game against Clackamas on Monday at Hood View Park, winning the night 12-9 against the number 18th ranked in the state. The turn of the game was at the top of the third inning when Centennial tied up to match Clackamas with a 3-3 score. In the top of the fourth and the top of the sixth, the Eagles managed to score 8 runs, bringing the total to 12. The game was over when a hard ground ball hit to second baseman Trislyn Schmelling, who turned a double play to first baseman Alexis Henderson for the second and third outs of the last inning.
Centennial’s top hitters Monday included Ashley Hawkins who went 2-5, scored one run, and batted in a run. Schmelling, who went 1-4, scoring two runs and batted in one. Pitcher Charlotte Marcum went 3-5, scoring three runs and batting in one and only striking out once.
“I think we played our best (against Clackamas). The majority of our team had a good game. I think we wanted the ‘dub’ more than Clackamas and I think that’s what gave us the win. We gained momentum and kept it consistently. It was a good hitting game all around, and I think our team fought harder and came out on top,” said Marcum.
Marcum, on the mound for all seven innings, surrendered nine runs with 12 hits over seven innings striking out one.
