Wrestling Secures Tie For League Championship
The Eagles beat Reynolds last night to guaranteed co-district champions with Sandy.
If Barlow wins next week against Sandy, Centennial automatically become champions of the conference (dual) championship. Then they’ll prepare for the conference tournament championship.
“Roger Matthews and I are extremely proud of these kids,” said Assistant Wrestling Coach Ehren Schneider.
This is the first time ever the wrestling team at CHS has won or tied for the conference (dual) championship.
“We’re hoping to finish our goal as tournament champions,” he stated.
Here are the team’s overall scores from the season so far:
Gresham 68-10–Win
Sandy 37-36–Loss
Clackamas 51-21–Win
Barlow 57-18–Win
Douglas 42-32–Win
Reynolds 54-14–Win
Last night was also very sentimental, as they recognized the seniors on the team and all their hard work this season, or for some, many seasons.
“Last night was our senior night and we’re gonna miss our seniors from this team,” said Schneider.
There are two tournaments left until the final district conference tournament; the Eagles wrestle at Hood River on January 26 and at Clackamas on February 1 and 2.
“We’re gonna sharpen our skills in order to bring home the conference tournament championship,” he said.
“Right now we’re tied and we’re gonna show them who deserves the title,” said wrestler Ihe Gonzales.
“We just gotta keep working and stay humble, stay working as we are,” said two-time state champion wrestler Phillip Kue.
“We’re happy to represent Centennial High School and all of athletics,” said Schneider.
