Football Runs Into Irish Powerhouse; Season Ends In Eugene
The Eagles’ season ended last Friday at the hands of the Sheldon Irish in the first round of the playoffs. The 42-6 loss left the team with a 4-6 overall record.
“I am really proud of how we played. We weren’t expected to win, but expected to play hard, and we did,” said Head Coach Butch Self.
The Eagles were close early. The first quarter ended with Sheldon up only 7-6, and the 28-6 half time score was still respectable.
“We moved the ball around. We had an offensive line they weren’t used to,” said Self.
“They scored really late into the game, but they were by far the best team we saw all year,” said Self.
Self predicts Sheldon will win the state title considering it is ranked #3. Sheldon currently has an 8-2 overall record.
“This is a really good football team, they have at least dozen players signed to D1 colleges next year,” said Self.
Coach Self said he was pleased with his first year of coaching the Eagles and is preparing for another one.
“I’m excited. I love this team; this has been the best 6 months of my life in a long time.”
Players will have a week off before they start weight training, “They’re ready and pumped to continue this momentum,” said Self.
The Eagles doubled their win total from last season. “We hope to add a couple more games next season,” said Self.
