Track Gears Up For Championships
This was the third year the track team attended the Elden Kellar invitational. The boys placed second the last two years, finishing second last year by only half a point. On the other hand the girls placed first the last two years winning by a comfortable margin. This year the boys were able to get over the hump and place first with score of 131, the second place team being century with a score of 107. Adding on to that, the girls performed well but finished second for the first year ever in the invitational. Coach Greg Letts commented, “It was a total team effort.”
Last Tuesday, the track team had their last home meet of the year. Barlow and Gresham were in attendance for the meet. Sophomore Jimmie Barton continues to dominate the 100 meter dash finishing in first place with a time of 11.06. He finished first in the 200m as well with a time of 22.85. Sophomore Jason Deleon PR’d in the 800m finishing first with a time of 2:03.77. Junior Gabriel Talbert PR’s as well placing first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.85.
On the girls side, Junior Alyssa Ronnfeldt finished first in the 200m with a time of 27.52 and first in the 400m with a time of 1:03.03. Sophomore Angel Aluesi PR’d in the shot put throwing 41’10.50 feet. She also PR’d in the discus throwing 128’11 feet placing first comfortably. In the discus sophomore Christina Rodriguez PR’d throwing a solid 114’05 feet.
The Track teams next meet will be the Mount Hood Conference Championships on May 8th-9th at Gresham high school at 3:00pm.
