2012 Grad Wins Prestigious Scholarship
Sandra Dorning, a 2013 Centennial High School graduate was one of the 43 US students that were awarded the Marshall Scholarship to study abroad in the UK. This scholarship is going to pay for her to be able to choose any school she wants to study at and have graduate work at any university she chooses.
At this point it appears Dorning is favoring University of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland.
¨It feels wonderful to have the opportunity to study abroad as a Marshall scholar. I’ve always wanted to study in the U.K., so this is really a dream come true. It’s a great opportunity for my specific career field as well,” she said.
“I’m interested in working in international fisheries management and policy in an international setting.¨
Math teacher Ross Cottrell is impressed but not surprised by Dorning’s success. “I am excited for her. It’s nice that all of her hard work is paying off and that her degrees are getting paid for,” he said.
“It was an honor to be able to teach her and get to know her and her family,” Cottrell said. Dorning’s mom, Trish, works in the counseling center and her brother, Sam, graduated in 2016.
