The rugby program is still fairly new to the school and is in its fourth year under program co-founder and head coach Tom Bremer.   “I always wanted to coach rugby and there hasn’t been a lot of opportunities,”  he said. So he and teacher Tom Young started a rugby team.

This all started when group of girls petitioned to start up a rugby team. They met with the school administration and things soon went through. Young was asked to help coach the team but soon left to focus on the golf team.

With fall season underway, the team currently holds a 1-8 record. They have 3 matches this upcoming Saturday at Glenhaven Park. The first match of the day will start at 12pm with the others coming at 1:20pm and 2:40pm.

The team captains are Isabella Torres, Jasmin Vazquez and Kyla Chipman. All 3 captains are seniors.

Bremer expects the team to “Continue to improve. This is a very young team that is gaining experience.”

There are two seasons for rugby, fall and spring. The spring season is the bigger season. Practices for the spring season start in January.

The team is interested in new players for the spring season. If anybody is interested in joining, make sure to contact Bremer through the athletic office or any of the current players on the team.
