The Centennial girls tennis team currently have a record of 9-5, good enough for third in the Mount Hood Conference. In their last game the team narrowly lost to Central Catholic by a match score of 75-63.

Beating Central Catholic would have been a big win for the the team, but despite the loss Coach Ben Petersen has remained upbeat and believes the team can finish out the season strong.

The team’s final match of the season is a huge game against 10-1 Clackamas. Petersen said, “We can beat Clackamas but it will be tough.”

The doubles duo of Avelina Borovskiy and Brittney Pioquinto are currently 7-3 in Mount Hood conference play. They are the best doubles on the team and can qualify for districts if they beat  Clackamas in the final game of the season.  Last time Borovskiy and Pioquinto played Clackamas they lost 7-6 in the first set and 6-2 in the second set.

This weekend is also a big one for the tennis program because JV districts are happening and the outcome districts will help determine how successful the team can be next season.  If the team is able to take down Clackamas it would be the biggest win of the season
Petersen said he is pleased to see that the district took care of the weeds on the tennis courts.  Now he would like discuss resurfacing the courts with the district because the courts “have many cracks and are in bad shape.”
