FBLA Visits Blazers

Rip+City+Portland

Rip City Portland

On November 16, 2016 to celebrate American Enterprise Day, members of the Centennial High School Future Business Leaders of America organization, along with Business Leadership and Accounting students, attended a field trip to the Moda Center, home of the Portland Trail Blazers.  During the event, Centennial High School and CHS FBLA alumni Willen Sin provided a VIP all access tour of the Blazer’s locker rooms, training room, all level of suites for business sponsorships, and many other amenities of the facility while entailing the behind the scenes business in the Moda Center.  One of the major highlights of the tour was touching the floor of the 1977 Championship team.  During the experience, students who attended had the rare opportunity to learn about various careers in the sports marketing/accounting industry.

After the tour was completed, all the students attended a career seminar.  Speakers included a Partner Marketing Specialist, an Account Payable Representative, a Group Sales Representative, and a Marketing Intern.  All four spoke about their everyday tasks, challenges of their jobs, opportunities, qualifications, and education.  The biggest takeaway for many of the students was the realization that getting a job right out of college may not be the norm.  All of the speakers had to start as interns after graduating college and work their way up to their current position.  Openings in with the Blazer organization are rare and potential employees must be persistent.
