Last Friday the Eagles played the Clackamas Cavaliers for the second time this season, and lost 63-42 in the second round of the state playoffs.  Although this game might have seemed like a blowout on paper, the Eagles were actually keeping up with the Cavaliers and had tied the game at 28 in the 4th quarter.

Senior wide receiver Louis Salazar showed off his athleticism scoring three receiving touchdowns.  He almost returned a kickoff return until getting caught up in traffic on the Cavaliers 35 yard line. As the Eagles kept trying to put pressure on the Cavaliers defense, one of Clackamas’ defensive backs intercepted a screen pass to Salazar and took it to the endzone resulting in a huge momentum loss for the Eagles. After that defensive touchdown, the Eagles seemingly couldn’t recover.

The Eagles finished their season with a 8-3 overall, and improved tremendously from the 2015 football season. Before the season officially started in September, many reporters were doubtful that Centennial  would even finish in the top four of the Mount Hood Conference. Proving the naysayers wrong, the Eagles finished in third place in a season highlighted with a win over the Central Catholic Rams  which was the Rams’ first league loss in 43 games.

This was a much-anticipated season for the Eagles with a talented senior class.  However, Head Coach Chris Knudsen doesn’t think this season was a fluke.  He is still undecided on who will lead his team at the quarterback position next season in which he has two great candidates, future Sophomore, Kaiden Lansford, and future Junior, Cyrus Boatman.

Knudsen said, “Whichever player is working the hardest in the offseason, and shows up to every daily double practice, along with which player shows great leadership will be awarded with the starting job.”
