The boys’ team celebrates after a goal in a home game.

The Centennial Eagles boys soccer team has gotten off to an unexpected start this season with a 6-4-2  record (3-1-1 in conference play). A very stunning and important win this season was their pre-season win against the Jesuit Crusaders. The team came out to play hard that day against the now second-ranked team in the state, and beat them 3-1.

The team has recently had their forward Dawson Day get injured with a broken foot in the beginning of league play. Before Day was injured, he showed off his athleticism by scoring many goals for the team, and was a very surprising asset due to this being his first year playing soccer since the third grade.

“As a senior Dawson Day was a great example to show the younger players that working hard, and showing up to practice everyday will eventually show during the season,” said head coach Justin Rosenblad.

Without Day, they have continued to be a top caliber team in the Mount Hood Conference. The team has recently suffered a blowout from the conference powerhouse Central Catholic 7-0, but quickly bounced back the very next game tying with the Barlow Bruins.

“We played hard and we knew that we couldn’t get another loss, so we just kept that mindset in our heads and played with all we had,” Junior Miguel Carrillo said.

Overall, the team is hoping to win the Mount Hood Conference, and making a run in the playoffs. “We have a good mix of older and younger players including three freshmen that get significant time. I think for us to compete for the conference title, and make a little run in the playoffs is pretty realistic,” said Rosenblad.

The Eagles next game is Tuesday, October 18 at 6pm against the Clackamas Cavaliers, who are ranked 18th in the state with an overall record of 5-4-3 (4-1 in conference play).
The team’s last home game will be Senior Night against the Oregon City Pioneers at home on October 20.
