Girls Basketball Home Game Tonight
The 1-3 Eagle girls basketball team takes on 5A power The Dalles tonight at 6 pm as part of a girls-boys double header. The boys game is at 7:30.
Earlier in the season the team suffered a 57-32 loss against Central High school.
Coach Tom West said, “Our defense wasn’t up to task. We allowed too many easy buckets.” But he promised the team will work hard to fix that. Alyssa Guthrie (8 points), Kristin Shore (9), and Gianna Loville (11) were the leading scorers for that game.
Coach West continues to instill his philosophy of playing hard and getting better every day in his players.
The girls team lost 34-43 to Sandy at home in a tough fought game. Loville had a terrific game with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Other leading scorers were Guthrie and Courtney Perry with 8 and 6 points, respectively. Guthrie Lliana Garcia were tenacious on the boards with 10 rebounds apiece.
The girls team got their first victory of the year against the Parkrose, beating the Broncos 60-20 as freshman Maggie Martine had a breakout game with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Guthrie had her best game of the season with 17 points and 13 boards. Garcia had 8 points and 10 rebounds.
Tuesday’s game against South Albany ended in a 26-22 loss. Scoring leaders were Megan Byram and Guthrie with 8 each. The team may have found a bright spot on defense as J’melia Bell came off the bench to stifle the South Albany point guard.
