The In’s and Out’s of Juliana Bach: A Student Spotlight

Is there anything new or exciting happening in your life currently?

I just got a puppy!

Do you plan on going to college after high school? What drew you to make that decision?

Yeah. Mm, it’s because I’d like to become a pediatrician.

What career path do you plan on pursuing in college? What do you find appealing about this career?

A pediatrician! Growing up I was always drawn to the medical field, and I think I was in 6th grade when I decided that I wanted to become a pediatrician, because I think it’d be pretty fun and lively working with kids. They’re also the future which makes that occupation seem even more fascinating to me. I love working with kids, which was why I took Child Development last year, taking Child Development and Theory this year, and will be taking the Infant and Toddler Work Experience class later on.

Did you have a favorite childhood stuffed animal?

Yeah I have a horse named Horsey haha, the most creative name. He’s gold with a red collar. I got him when I was seven during Christmas and he’s been with me ever since. You can ask anyone in my family- I had a very strong emotional attachment to him, and he’s supported me throughout life. As you can see he’s very floppy now and had surgery done by mom and now he has a spine!

Do you find distance learning easier or more difficult than in-person learning?

I’d say both. It was a lot easier to participate in class because I can just use the chat to message my teacher privately, but my motivation definitely dropped tremendously. Though now that I have a puppy distance learning was kind of a blessing in disguise because he takes 8 hours out of my day.

What’s your favorite movie?

Spirited Away. The nostalgia that comes with it, and the amazing animations and the storyline makes it my favorite.

Do you have a favorite restaurant? What do you typically order from there?

I love Thai places, and I get Pad See Ew with chicken, extra spicy.

Have you ever traveled outside of the United States?

I have once, which was when I was in third grade and I went to Vietnam for the first time!

If your life could be a movie genre, what would it be and why?

Hm, it’d be a low-budget awkward comedy that always breaks the fourth wall. My life’s pretty boring not gonna lie.

Have you started any new hobbies since the start of quarantine?

I haven’t started any new hobbies, everything’s been the same.

Do you have a favorite childhood memory?

It would definitely be all of the sleepovers I had with my brother and cousins. We’d make a giant list of things to do and play Minecraft till the next day.

Do you consider yourself more of an introvert or an extrovert?

I’d say I’m more of an introvert. I love my alone time, and prefer to spend my day in bed on my phone watching YouTube videos, dramas, or anime. I do love hanging out with my friends, but my social battery definitely gets drained, and for the next week all I would want to do is be in my room.

How many siblings do you have?

I have two older brothers. Brian, who is 22 and Phillip, who is 18.

What fictional character do you relate to the most?

Patrick Star.

Do you have any pets?

I have one, and his name is Minki. I also have many koi fish in the pond outside if that counts.

Do you have a favorite holiday or family tradition?

My favorite holiday is Christmas because I have a gigantic family that comes together and it’s lots of fun. Lunar New Year is also pretty cool cause of the money ;). My favorite family tradition is camping!

What is something that you’ve accomplished that you are most proud of?

I’m proud of how far I’ve come in life.

How has your perspective on the world changed since the start of COVID-19/quarantine?

A lot has happened this past year and it’s really disappointing. All of the hate crimes, violence, racism, negativity, it’s crazy.

Is there anything on your bucket list?

To be able to support my parents. They’ve sacrificed and done so much for me, my brothers, and the rest of my family. I’d love to return that favor one day. Also to travel the world sounds pretty cool.

What is something people should know about you?

I have the swaggiest seal named Noot Noot.

Have you ever lived in any other states?

I’ve always lived in Oregon.
