School Should Open for Workouts Opinion Piece
Staying healthy over this pandemic has been no easy task. I have been lucky enough to have a gym membership, paid for by my parents. Many students at Centennial High School do not have the privilege of having a gym membership due to the fact that they can be very expensive. Without having a gym membership, it can be hard to stay in shape. Centennial High School has a weight room, gym, and track. However it is closed due to COVID-19. Gyms like Cascade Athletic Club and Planet Fitness are open with masks required. Centennial School District should offer a program that lets students use their gym and fitness equipment with masks required. It is not only good for a student’s physical health, but it is good for their mental health to stay in shape.
Centennial School District opening up their buildings for kids of all ages to come and workout would have many benefits, it would help students stay motivated and build friendships. Many students experienced loneliness during this pandemic and this could help in many ways. We could move all the equipment to the gymnasium and place them 6 feet away from each other. However we would also require students to sanitize the equipment after use. I don’t see why CSD doesn’t just allow students to do this, if students are social distancing and sanitizing, what’s the worst that could happen?
As a student of Centennial High School, I will fight for this! We should be able to stay in shape over this Pandemic and use the equipment. Centennial School District should offer a program that lets students use their gym and fitness equipment with masks required.
