In support of his new album CHROMAKOPIA which will be released on Oct 28, 2024, Tyler, the Creator starts a world tour in February, 2025. Tickets for his stop in Portland at the Moda Center on Feb 26 will be available by Nov 1, so a lot of Centennial students are considering going to the concert right now.
Tyler, the Creator has 35 million monthly listeners on spotify right now. His song “See You Again” temporarily landed #1 in the country after its release, but you might also know him from songs like “NEW MAGIC WAND’, “EARFQUAKE” or “BEST INTEREST’. Tyler Gregory Okonma’s career started 2011 when he won an award for “Yonkers”, his first single at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. After publishing his first Album “Goblin” in 2011, that includes “Yonkers”, he started publishing albums every two years: Wolf (2013), Cherry Bomb (2015), Flower Boy (2017), IGOR (2019), CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST (2021), CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate State (2023) and now CHROMAKOPIA.
On Oct 16, he revealed in a teaser video that the song “Noid” is going to be on the album. On Oct 28, he released the whole album with 14 tracks. The album, released under the label Columbia Records, would fit best in the genres Hip-Hop, Jazz, Rap or Neo Soul. The concept of the album is also mentionable because it is narrated by Tyler Okonma’s mother and critics speculated that it’s inspired by the children’s novel The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster, specifically the story of Chroma the Great.
In the last few years, Tyler also attracted some negative publicity. For example, he made some critical claims about the 1999 school shooting at Columbine High School. In an interview, he said the two shooters were “probably really cool people”. He also gets accused of not respecting women due to his misogynistic lyrics, for Tyler that is part of his art and not his personal opinions. Overall and compared to other celebrities, Tyler, the Creator as a person is still commonly viewed as acceptable and that doesn’t affect the uniqueness and popularity among young listeners of his music.
That’s a reason why many students at this school are excited for his tour stop on Feb 27 at the Moda Center in Portland. It was confirmed that Lil Yachty and Paris Texas are pre acts of his concerts. Additionally, fans can expect some features from the album to be part of the main act like Sexyy Red, GloRilla, Lil Wayne and Childish Gambino. So, if you’re interested in visiting the concert now, be ready at 10:00 am on Friday, Nov 1st to buy your tickets before they are sold out.
