With Halloween upcoming, there comes the tradition of trick or treating. Being a highschool student, students ask themselves “Should I trick or treat this year?’
Age has a huge part to do with the decision of whether or not you trick or treat. Most of the people that are trick or treating are children. Students might be under the impression that they are too old, but how old is too old?
“Once you’re out of high school and going to college that’s when it’s crazy to go trick or treating because you’re an adult” says Roan Cereghino.
On the other hand, Manual Ruelas Gonzalez says, “You’re never too old to trick or treat.”
“I think once you are 18 you shouldn’t trick or treat anymore but once you have kids it’s acceptable again,” says Braidyan Bishop.
Even though you’re growing up and not a kid any more, who wouldn’t want free candy? This is what motivates highschoolers to trick or treat. Trick or treating gives everyone the chance to get a ton of free candy by just dressing up and knocking on a neighbor’s door.
“The only reason I would go trick or treating this year is to finesse and get candy” Braidyn Bishop stated.
Some people don’t see free candy as rewarding as others. Some high schools would rather have their own plans. Halloween is a fun holiday where people have one day to be whoever they want. This holiday gives so many options of what to do, like having a little party, watching scary movies. and so on. There’s many different ways to spend it other than trick or treating and getting candy.
“As I grow up, candy isn’t as rewarding as it used to be. I would rather just hang out with my friends.” said Jasia Ede.
From another perspective, sometimes people don’t think highschoolers are worthy of trick or treating. An article by Sonia Yost said, “Teens should not trick-or-treat… Teens can continue to dress up if they wish, but they shouldn’t be asking their neighbors for candy. They have the ability to drive and get a job.” Halloween is a holiday for everyone, even if teens can get their own candy that’s no excuse to not be able to participate in a holiday.
“Everyone should be able to trick or treat because it’s fun” said Manuel Ruelas Gonzalez. It should be a socially acceptable time to all be receiving a little treat,
no matter if you have the ability to get their own candy. Everyone should be welcomed to trick or treat.
