In Centennial High school’s drama department, Tech Theater makes necessary preparations for the upcoming play. Carefully cutting away at wood, gathering materials and working together to set up for the fall play. The new play is “Noses Off!”; a parody of the 1982 play “Noises Off!” by Michael Frayn. “Noses Off!” will be showcased in Centennial’s auditorium from the 25th through the 27th, and November 2nd to the 3rd. “Noses Off!” follows a story of chaotic production with the work of emotionally unstable actors who can’t hold it together for their murder mystery play.
Behind the scenes and hard at work, tech theater’s job is to make sure to prepare props, take care of lighting and such for the actors; they work backstage in order to ensure the play goes smoothly during its run time. Prior to the play, students have spent the majority of their time staying extra hours at centennial working and practicing. Jace Cornelius, a tech theater’s student, Said “We have three weeks after school starts in the fall to prepare for the next school play.”
Students take time to rehearse and make necessary adjustments to deliver an amazing experience to parents and attending students of CHS. While attending rehearsals, Tech student’s built amazing items for the background set. “We have a 2 story rotating set. Our roles when it comes to building them depends on the groups we get split into in which the senior leads the other techie’s and we are set to build whatever McCarty tells us to.” said Cornelius.
During the play, there are multiple jobs to be done. Each tech student is assigned to one of these jobs in order to help the play run smoothly. “Makeup, costumes, props, stage crew, stage head, lighting, tech director, sound and ushering,” listed by Jace, member of the stage crew. The ambience from the lighting, and the dramatization through the sound effects is crucial to help the play progress and enhance the story for the audience.. Although people can’t always see some of the students working first hand, these students do their best to deliver an amazing experience for the audience and deserve nothing but appreciation for the time and effort they have put into all of the plays we have here at Centennial. Make sure to support them as well as our actors by seeing “Noses off!” this upcoming weekend!
