As the season is starting to fire up for Centennial’s volleyball team they have already been on a winning streak. Looking at the previous year’s stats it looks to be that this year is starting off stronger than before.
On Tuesday September 5th, 2023 Centennial’s varsity volleyball team had a game against Hood River Valley High School. They ended that match with a total of 3-1, taking that night’s win. Last volleyball season they played Hood River and lost 2-1, so winning against them definitely felt good.
“It makes us push harder and keep fighting,” Brooklyn Boyd, Junior and Setter outside on the team states, “Bring everything we did from that game to the next.” Winning this game really encouraged them to put their best foot forward and step it up at the next matches.
“It gives us a better mentality going into the matches because we now know we have the actual ability to win,” Peyton Davis, Senior captain and Outside hitter adds on, “We now strive to do better because of the mentality it gives us.” As we can tell these wins aren’t only just wins to the girls but it improves their gameplay, mindset, and attitude towards the game as well as the team.
Moving onto the girls’ teamsmanship, we can see it will either improve their gameplay or completely tear it down. Without a compatible team there would be no team at all, but from what we’ve seen this year it’s been nothing but positive and successful.
“Simply, us being at school brings us so many new things to talk about,” Gabi Necula, Senior and Middle front row on the team explains, “,whether it be about teachers, classes, or anything new going on in our life.”
Keeping that connection and friendship between your teammates can help influence how your team moves on and off the court. Without being civil and maintaining a healthy bond your team is bound to start falling apart, but luckily for them it sounds that their bond is everlasting. As well as a good bond between the team members, you have to have a good bond with your coach. Without either of them you’ll never see eye to eye on what’s wanted, and thanks to Coach Jared and Coach Wohlers they have it all.
“I believe with the trust we have in each other and the friendships we’ve built is the reason we have been winning,” Boyd mentions, “But with what our coaches say to us and how they encourage us contributes to it as well.”
“I agree, I believe it is a team effort and at the end of the day it is us on the court and we’re the ones figuring out who’s doing what,” Davis adds on, “But we listen to their ideas, or what they mention and we take the initiative to do so.”
As for now, the Centennial volleyball team has their winning streak and is killing it out on the court. They’ve been able to accomplish wins together and find the friendship within all of them and their coaches. The volleyball team is ecstatic at their season so far and its only the beginning, Let’s Go Eagles.
