Volleyball Club

Volleyball+Club

At Centennial, there are a wide variety of clubs, including a lesser known Volleyball Club. The Centennial Volleyball Club runs on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. They meet twice a day, with the morning meeting running from 6:30 to 7:40, while the afternoon meet is from 3:15 to 5:20. Treyson Komoda, the captain of the Volleyball Club, put in extreme effort to make the club a place to build a community while playing a game they all enjoy.
Chance Orterry started his volleyball journey in 7th grade, with his friends. As the covid pandemic hit, it became harder to play with his friends, and eventually he put the game on hold. While he couldn’t play, he never lost his passion for volleyball and continued to find himself inspired by it. Chance described his urge to play stating, “I had this hunger, this itch to play”. When he returned to in person schooling, the volleyball club opened up new opportunities for him to play and fulfill his passion.
On May 16th, the volleyball club played against Park Rose. Despite their loss, this game showed the club just how much they rely on each other. Despite the lack of meets the volleyball club, Coach Komoda proved to be a good coach while supporting his team, and was able to provide good advice for the games in the future. Chance spoke of this as a huge turning point for their team, as it gave them motivation to keep pushing for a better future for their club, andgames.
Despite the volleyball team’s growth, there is a lot of pushback from others regarding how much the club itself is allowed to do. Only recently has the club been able to meet in the afternoons as well as the mornings, due to scheduling issues with the school about the volleyball nets. As well as this there’s a lot of push from the staff to replace the volleyball club meetings with other sport meets. Coach Komoda however worked to make arrangements that suited everyone, in hope of keeping the club alive.
As we get closer to the end of the year, the club continues to push on, inspiring others to follow their passions as well. We are all excited to continue to watch the volleyball team grow as we go into the next school year.
