In Memory of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

On September 18, 2020, Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ginsburg was one of the nine Supreme Court Justices; she was well known and an amazing woman who did many many things.

Ginsburg attended Cornell University and graduated at the top of her class. After her husband came back from the Army she enrolled in Harvard Law School. Alongside studying law, she also studied to help fight for women’s rights. At the time, Harvard University had said, “She will be remembered as a champion of equality.”

She was appointed to the SCOTUS Bill Clinton in 1993 and she served until her death in 2020. Ginsburg had won five landmark Supreme Court cases. She fought for gender equality and racial equality-for example United States vs Virginia, which created an equal higher learning institution for women, since one was already set in place for men.

Ginsburg also did a lot for women’s reproductive rights. One of the laws she campaigned was that employers cannot discriminate against employees based on gender or reproductive choices. This was called the Pregnancy Discrimination Act that was passed in 1978.

Another example of how she supported equal rights was when she led the ruling decision in the United States v. Virginia case in 1996, making it possible for women to attend Virginia military institute.

Another one of her accomplishments was that she worked really hard to pass was the Equal Credit Opportunity Act in 1974. This act was to ensure that women have equal financial benefits, which allowed women the same military allowances as men, and women were no longer required to pay more for pension plans like men had to.

Ginsburg has done a lot for the people of America. Now, because of Ginsburg, juries must include women, rights for women have been expanded, and her influence on the country will be remembered.
