If someone were to ask me what I thought of my first month of high school, which, believe me, they have quite abundantly, my first instinct is to sigh deeply in both relief and grief.

My first impression of the school started with the packet they sent out a week before school started. I remember the exact feeling of relief and excitement while I was expecting to finally receive my schedule.

I am the type to be overly prepared, and so when the packet was discovered to be “schedule-less,” I panicked a little.

Everything was proven to fine however when I did get that schedule a few days later. It turns out that the middle school really overestimated how hard it would be to get into electives.

Everything was proven to be even better when the entire school was assembled in the main gym. I promptly was able to find a friend of mine and we assembled together to watch the assembly. (It’s not too boring, I swear.)

As for the rest of the first week, most of it involved kahoot games and discussions of the class rules, with regulations. Perfect for those, like me, who have a poor sense of direction. (Nothing important or graded will be missed). Believe me, if I can find my way around this school, so can you.

The most important lesson I’ve been taught in the previous month is that sometimes you have to take priorities. The first week or two will hit you like a truck because most every day you will have some type of homework. Nothing that can’t be done, but definitely enough to tire yourself out.

Now I’m the type of person that likes to read and write at the same time, and during the summer that works perfectly fine.

However, when classes and work, and extracurriculars are thrown into the mix, it becomes a bit more complicated. Sometimes you have to prioritize some things over others. I dropped reading long series of books, and now I’m starting to finally find my place at CHS.
