Potential Snow Days Always Raise Questions

Snow days are a common experience for Centennial but there are many questions that people have about the potential days off from school.

For people that don’t know if there is a snow day or not, there are many ways to find out. First, there is an auto dialer system that calls everyone to notify them about school being cancelled due to snow.

Additionally, there also emergency notifications from Multnomah County. Another way to find out is through the local news, television, and weather alerts. Finally, the Centennial website also will say if school has been cancelled because of snow.

Last year had an extraordinary amount of snow days that caused the district to have to adjust the schedule. This included such acts as the reduced amount of late starts and no conferences in the Spring. This year, there would have to be 4.5 or 5 days before the school would have to adjust the schedule, said Principal Mairi Scott-Aguirre.

Another key question about snow days is how they would impact graduation. Scott-Aguirre stated that the graduation date–June 13– won’t be influenced by snow days.
