In the 2017-2018 Centennial Varsity Basketball season lots of familiar faces are gone, lots of new faces have arrived. Eight seniors graduating last year left multiple spots open for new players to take over.

Senior David Kunda is one of the three returning rotation players who’s returning for his last year of high school basketball starting the season with a new varsity head coach John Poetsch after losing Osa Esene to Blue Mountain Community College.

Poetsch has coached Centennial for over 20 years and is making his return to add on a few more. “It’s sad to see Osa go with all the things he taught me developing me into a better player, but I’m ready for a new season and a great season with Coach Poetsch,” said Kunda.

Kunda is ready to start off the season with a great and positive attitude.

Last year Kunda came off the bench and gave the team a spark with his ability to rebound and play solid defense.

Kunda averaged about 7.0 points per game helping the team reach the playoffs.

Kunda had a breakout game with a career high 24 points against La Salle. “I still remember that game like it was yesterday. It was great being a factor all game,” he said.

As 2017-2018 rolls on, Kunda prepares for his new role in the starting lineup, change of coaches and new team faces and is looking forward to doing lots of big things for the team this year.

Sonam Phuntsok, a senior teammate said, “It’s fun playing next to David, I’m hoping for a great season this year.”
