Girls Basketball Heads West

With fall sports coming to an end, winter sports are around the corner, which means hoop season is here.

The Girls Basketball team has a new head coach this year, Tom West. West started coaching at Portland Christian High School in 1976. He coached JV boys for 17 years and varsity girls for 13 years. When asked why he chose Centennial he said, “I believe god brought me to Centennial.”

West expects to have a solid year by showing improvement in all aspects of the game. His goals for the season are to have fun, learn and get better by the years end. Additionally, West is a believer in hard work.  His coaching philosophy is, “Everyone giving their best all the time.”

Recently, there have been been various open gyms that West has been attending. He noted that over 20 girls attended the open gyms. West said ,“We only have six upperclassmen and all will be key players.” These players consist of: Cailin Warner, Courtney Perry,Gianna Loville, Megan Byram, Kristin Shore and Allysa Guthrie.

Tryouts for Basketball began on November 16th and Coach West encourages more girls to try out.
